Imagine what we would have lost if Frank Zappa, Hunter S. (Sidenote: Lunatism-which, as we all know, is not a word- is not always something one should attempt to rid themselves of. but the instructions say to go to my account and find the serial there. I have this bit of paper that came with the KL88 with a pianoteq license printed on. ) and have to go to Pianoteq and enter a serial. I'm cool with the controls in the Stage version of this if I need something deeper, I'll jump into Kontakt. I'm following the instructions, having installed iLok and UVI (logins evereywhere. That being said, I do agree that the library needs some tweaking.some, but, besides the fact damn-near *everything does to some degree, I find that if I am spending too much time trying to mold a certain instrument into how I want it to sound, I am probably wasting time that I should be spending looking for the instrument that I actually need. Does it sound like I'm front row at a Blues Jam? No. I have, and love, my Gospel Musicians Rhodes' and I use them often, but sometimes the Lounge Lizard EPs actually fit with the rest of the instruments better. The fact is, I have heard purists argue that 5,000 GB Kontakt piano libraries are garbage because the mic's are in the wrong place and that without proper mic placement it's ".just noise." I think that a lot of people are going for uber-realism, and don't realize that the majority of music that you hear is not recorded on a priceless Steinway in some exclusive studio but, instead, it's created with VSTis or libraries that aren't always even necessarily "high-end." i.e.: I 've heard people bitch about what a hunk of crap Lounge Lizards EPs are, especially the Rhodes. The trial version can be used in burst of twenty minutes.I'm can't jump on board with the "Otherwise it's just a lifeless and characterless library," LALALA. There is a whole plethora of options available to you, which can help you make the best sounding piano recordings. ![]() Of course, it is also possible to record what you play, but that's just scratching the surface. This includes equalizers, mallet bounce options, special effects, calibration wizards and much more. There are numerous tools you can discover in Pianoteq. Each panel is a visual representation of what you intend to adjust and you only need to click it to reveal the controls you need. You can find tuning, voicing and design controls, neatly hidden behind three sliding panels, on the top half of the interface. Regardless of what piano you choose, the software lets you adjust it without any restrictions. The available pianos can be found in a system of menus and sub-menus and most of them will apply a fitting theme to the user interface. The software lets you choose from a wide variety of virtual pianos, including Steinway's Model D and Model B. You can also find pedals in the same area, which can be activated in a similar way. A virtual keyboard can be found in the bottom part of the interface and you can interact with its keys by simply clicking on them. It places a wide range of useful controls in front of you, but it keeps most of them out of sight for aesthetic purposes. The elegant design of the user interface certainly makes the software worthy of the sounds it produces. ![]() Also, installing an ASIO driver will make a difference if you want a decent latency. While it doesn't ask for a significant amount of memory or processing power, a physical MIDI keyboard is a must. It is compatible with all modern Windows systems and it can be installed in under a minute. Pianoteq is free to try, but with some limitations. The software's playability and the sounds it produces are approved by renown piano company Steinway & Sons, so you can expect it to deliver even on the highest of expectations. There are all sorts of virtual pianos available on the Internet, but Pianoteq is one that is really worth mentioning. On the recently released version 6.4.1, pianoteq’s team have added a new CLI option that allows to activate the licensed software without the need of opening the Pianoteq’s native UI.
